The three-term academic year of the Dhamma School commences in mid-September and runs until mid-July. Nearer the time of commencement, we will update you with current information about this class further.

Students will continue to learn:

Dhamma

The syllabus of Senior I, and the following:

  • Thirty-seven constituents of enlightenment (bodhipakkiyā dhammā)
  • Four stages on the path of nibbāna, dependent origination (paṭiccasamuppāda) and the three characteristics (tilakkhana)
  • Meaning of the Ratana Sutta verses and a summary of the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta
  • Henry S. Olcott (1832–1907) and his associates’ contributions to the Buddha sāsana
  • Buddhist approach to discerning truth
  • Students should memorise verses 64–65, 67–68, 81, 90, 92, 97, 103, 112–113, 121–122, 127 and 145 of the Dhammapada and understand each verse’s meaning.

Abhidhamma

Syllabus of Senior I:

And classification of citta according to doors (dvāra), objects (ārammana) and bases (vattu).

Analyses of thought processes (citta vīti), through sense doors and mind-door, according to individuals and planes (puggala and bhūmi bhedo) and death proximate thought process (maraṇāsanna citta vīti).
