Students will continue to learn:
Dhamma
- Important events in the life of the Buddha from Prince Siddhārtha’s birth to enlightenment (bodhi)
- The twenty-four great qualities of the Buddha, Dhamma, and Saṅgha
- The history, reasons for, and results of the three Theravāda Buddhist Councils (saṅgāyanā)
- Introduction to the Tripiṭaka. Learning the names of the Sutta Piṭaka books, their main divisions and names of commentaries
- Different types of dāna and sīla, ten wholesome (dasa kusala) and unwholesome deeds (akusala kamma). Ten meritorious deeds (dasa puṇyakkriyā)
- Memorising the Mahā Maṅgala Sutta and the Karaṇīya Metta Sutta with an understanding of each verse’s meaning
- An introduction to the Dhammapada. Students should memorise the Dhammapada stanzas 1–5, 13–14, 16, 21 and 37 and should understand each verse’s meaning
Abhidhamma
- History of Abhidhamma
- Names of Books of the Abhidhamma Piṭaka and their Commentaries
- Differences of the contents of Sutta and Abhidhamma Piṭaka
- Difference between Paramattha Sacca (Absolute Reality) and Sammuti Sacca (Conventional Reality)
- The Four Absolute Realities (paramatthas). Classification of citta into 89 or 121 types
